Would you still throw up?

Ok I have a disorder that makes me naseous a lot (i never throw up though), so my doctor prescribed phenergan to take when I feel naseous. I looked up the drug and apparently its so powerful because it cuts off the "vomiting centre" in the brain from connecting to the stomach so you wont throw up. What would happen if, say, you got a bad stomach virus, one which you otherwise would throw up and you take it? If those signals couldnt get to your stomach would you still throw up? Or would you throw up and not feel it coming on?Would you still throw up?
it depends...
pills take on average about 30 minutes to kick in and be effective so if you're severely ill from food poisoning or similar, then yes you could still throw up even after taking the pill.
after the pill has had time to dissolve and enter the bloodstream, in most cases, it usually does stop the vomiting.
in some cases-people are intolerant to phenergan and will vomit when they are given it. they are usually then switched to another medication (such as compazine or zofran).
if the medication is given by I.V it usually only takes 5-10 minutes for it to take effect but can be ineffective in some one who doesn't tolerate it well and has to be given something else. same thing goes for it being given rectally.
hope this helped....
Uhmm...you're not being clear enough!
i'd ask my doctor, but i think it would go the opposite way.
